From the outside looking in, many would probably describe me as successful. I’m in my thirties, I have a career, a home, married and together we have two beautiful young children. On paper, it all adds up. But what they don't see, what most people can't possibly comprehend, is the daily, relentless battle that rages within my mind. It's a struggle that defines my every waking moment, and sometimes, even my sleep.

I live with Bipolar Disorder, a condition that paints my world in extreme highs and devastating lows. But that's not the full picture. It's compounded by ADHD, which ensures my thoughts are a constant, buzzing hive of activity; Generalized Anxiety Disorder, a persistent hum of worry that rarely dissipates; and OCD, which adds layers of intrusive thoughts and compulsions to an already crowded mental landscape. My mind, quite literally, never shuts off. Or, on the flip side, some mornings it feels like it takes an eternity to even boot up, leaving me feeling utterly paralyzed. There are days when the only place that feels truly safe, truly quiet, is my bed, pulling the covers over my head and wishing the world away.

The journey with medication has been a long and often frustrating one. It feels like a revolving door of trials, each new prescription holding a fragile promise, only to eventually fall short. Some have taken the edge off for a bit, offering a brief respite from the intensity, but none have truly stuck. They haven't provided the stable ground I desperately crave.

Lately, I've started taking Lithium. It's a name that carries a certain weight, almost a legend in the world of bipolar treatment, and honestly, it scares me a bit. It’s probably the most commonly used medication for bipolar, and while I cling to the hope it might be the one, there's also a quiet tremor of fear about what it means, what it will do, and if it too will eventually join the long list of "almosts."

This internal chaos is exhausting, isolating, and often terrifying. It's a constant tightrope walk, trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy for my family, for my work, for the world that sees only the "successful" man.

And yet, amidst this relentless storm, there are beacons of light that pierce through the darkest clouds. I truly don't know how I would be able to survive, let alone navigate these waters, without the unwavering support and boundless love of my wife, Jen. She sees me, truly sees me, beyond the diagnoses and the struggles. Her understanding, her patience, and her quiet strength are the anchors that keep me from drifting entirely. She is my steadfast partner, my confidante, and my greatest champion.

Then there are our children. Their unconditional love is a force unlike any other. Even in my darkest moments, a silly giggle, a tight hug, a simple "I love you, Daddy" can cut through the despair and bring a surge of pure joy and laughter. They don't see the labels; they just see their dad, and their innocent, boundless affection is a powerful reminder of what I'm fighting for, what makes every challenging day worth living.

It's a daily battle, one that most people will never see. But with Jen by my side, and the pure, unadulterated love of our kids filling our home, I find the strength to keep going, one day, one moment, at a time. They are my reason, my joy, and my ultimate grounding force.
